M+A Giveaway

4 Sep

M+A is a talented new electronica/pop duo out of Italy comprising of  Michele Ducci 19 and Alessendro Degli Angioli 22 and it only takes a quick listen of one track to see that They are going to be big. Recording everything from their home, their music largely consisting of samples and although they recognise themselves as fundamentally producing “pop” music, they make it with “the unpretentious intention to thrill”; quite an accurate and honest claim if you ask me.

Their album Things.yes will be released worldwide on November 7th by Monotreme Records. Until then, they are giving away this treasure for free.

13: A Song You Listen To When You’re Angry

28 Aug

50 Song Challenge

#13 Portishead – Machine Gun

Machine Gun was the first track to be released from Portishead’s 2008 album, Third, that marked the end of a 10 year-long haitus from production, and being much heavier than their previous work, it came as quite a shock. However, it soon became a stand out track from the album, showing a great deal of innovation.

One of the best songs of 2008, Machine Gun as some serious attitude. But it’s due its bittersweet nature that makes it a great song to listen to when angry. Whilst the industrial machine gun-like digital effects evoke a menacing feeling of a repressed anger just waiting to climb out, the sweet and soothing vocals of Beth Gibbons help to calm you down. Overall, the balance is pretty much just right.

The Swiss – Double or Nothing from Modular People on Vimeo.

From the proud city of Adelaide, South Australia, disco three-piece, The Swiss, caused a bit of a storm early last year with the release of their highly successful Bubble Bath EP. After the heavy touring schedule that followed the release of the EP, the boys are back with a new single, Double or Nothing, which will be out late next month through Modular.

If that’s not enough for you, you’ll be pleased to know that The Swiss are also working on a feature-length album to hit shelves sometime next year, so watch this space!

Iamamiwhoami

14 Aug

New from Swedish electronica  and multimedia project, Iamamiwhoami, comes this highly addictive track, Clump. A continuation of John, releaed earlier this year, although their main focus tends to be the video, I can tell this will be one of the best tracks of the year.

Record Collection 2012

2 Aug

Following the success of his third album in 2010, Mark Ronson returns to us with a new single, Record Collection 2012. The British producer has asked Pharrell Williams to collaborate with him on the upcoming single which will be a new version of Record Collection which was the titles track on his last album.

The original featured vocals from Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon and Wiley along with Ronson himself, so Williams should give this track a new edge. And we are of course very excited that these guys finally decided to work together. The new track also features MNDR, Wiley, Wretch 32 and Professor Green.

The single will also feature remixes from Moonlight Matters, CSS, Logo, Database, Plastic Plates and Perseus.

Record Collection 2012 will be released September 5th through Kitsuné.
